Provenance Hotel Nord Pinus in Arles, France and some its history:
Nord Pinus, is located across the Café de la Nuit, immortalised by Van Gogh and five minutes from the Van Gogh’s Foundation (started by the late father of Maja Hoffmann). “The Place du Forum was called “La Place des Hommes”, where independent workers would come to get hired for jobs in Camargue. Later in the 1950s, Nello a clown and Germaine a cabaret singer turned the historic building overseeing Arles’ central square into a hotel for artists. This drew important guests such as Eva Garner, Winston Churchill, Edith Piaf, Yves Montand, and Pablo Picasso among many others.”
The spectres of Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso are still there and the hotel remains a cultural landmark in Arles. “Don’t forget that Ray Charles, Francis Scott Fitzgerald, Caetano Veloso, Ravi Shankar, Buena Vista Social Club, Cesária Évora, Darius Gongy, Peter Lindbergh, Patty Smith, Paolo Roversi, Peter Beard, Rosanna Armani, Jill Sander, Yogi Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo, Tony Gatlif, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss and countless more talents also stayed at Nord Pinus.”.
Notes on this piece
- One of a kind. Sold in as-found condition with wear consistent with its age. Ask us for additional photographs or measurements before you buy — we answer the same day.
- On the attribution. Words such as “style of”, “manner of”, “attributed to”, “after” or “circle of” describe our informed opinion based on form, construction and materials. They are not a certification of authorship. Where authorship is documented, we say so plainly and name the evidence.
- Antique lighting. Sold as a decorative object. Where a piece has been rewired we say so in the description. Any antique lighting should be inspected and installed by a licensed electrician before use.
- Returns. One day from delivery for a change of mind — buyer pays shipping and a 15% restocking fee. If the fault is ours, none of that applies: 7 days, full refund including your original shipping, we pay the return freight, no restocking fee. See our refund policy.

We ship worldwide, quoted case by case. Tell us the piece and the destination and we will price crating, freight, insurance and customs handling for you.
Packing
Every piece is packed by hand using museum-quality materials. Fragile items are double-boxed with custom foam inserts. Glass and detachable elements are removed and packed separately, then reassembled on arrival.
