About the artist:
Born: 1924 - New York City Died: 1988 - Sitges, Spain Known for: Abstract and representational urban view painting, wallpaper design
He was a very talented painter and writer in Europe and the United States. Mitchell exhibited at such famous galleries as the Hanover Gallery in London and the Carstairs Gallery in New York City. For many years he supplemented his income as a painter by creating textile and wallpaper designs.
Mitchell's early years were spent in the company of the fashionable and famous surrounding his beautiful playwright mother, who was twice married to the great impressario Leon Leonidoff, Senior Producer of the Radio City Music Hall. His travels with them and his associations at an early age with a theatrical and literary crowd gave him a taste for the exotic.
He died suddenly in Sitges, a small town south of Barcelona, in 1988.
World traveler, artist and writer, he was truly a Renaissance man. Some of his textile work has been on exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Peter Todd Mitchell (sources give a birth year of either 1924 or 1928; died 1988) was an American painter who studied art at Yale University and the Accademia de las Bellas Artes in Mexico City, then served in U.S. Naval Intelligence during World War II. He moved to Paris in 1947 to pursue painting, holding his first exhibition at Jean Cocteau's Galerie Morihien, and went on to exhibit at London's Hanover Gallery and New York's Carstairs Gallery.
Alongside fine-art painting, he worked for years designing textiles and wallpaper, producing imagery ranging from historical subjects to street and canal scenes of Paris and Venice.
Published sources disagree on his birth year (1924 vs. 1928); treat exact birth date as unconfirmed.
