Edmé Samson founded his ceramics firm in Paris in 1845 after working at the Sèvres porcelain factory. The firm specialized in producing reproductions of ceramics held in museums and private collections, including copies of Chinese famille rose and famille verte export porcelain, Japanese Imari, and European porcelain from Worcester, Chelsea, Sèvres, and Meissen.

Samson's son Emile moved the factory to Montreuil in 1864, and the manufactory continued production until 1969.
