The piece

A beautifully detailed English transferware serving bowl by Johnson Bros., produced in the highly collectible "Old Britain Castles" pattern.

Rendered in a rich ruby-red tone on a crisp white ground, the design features an idyllic historic castle landscape surrounded by ornate floral and scrollwork borders, with romanticised architectural scenery, figures, trees and countryside. The scalloped rim carries intricate border decoration, suiting traditional and English country-style settings for display or use.
