Henri Bernard Goetz (September 29, 1909-August 12, 1989) was a French American Surrealist painter and engraver. He is known for his artwork, as well as for inventing the carborundum printmaking process. His work is represented in more than 100 galleries worldwide.

Goetz invented carborundum printmaking in the 1960s. In 1968, La gravure au carborundum, a treatise on carborundum printing, was published by the Maeght Gallery. It was prefaced by Joan Miró. Goetz created many abstract prints using this method. Other artists such as Antoni Clavé, Antoni Tàpies, and in particular, Joan Miró, employed carborundum printing in their work. The technique has since been used by printmakers around the world.
In addition to his carborundum printing research, Goetz undertook extensive research on pastels.

Henri Bernard Goetz was a French-American painter and engraver born in New York City in 1909. He studied at Harvard University and the Grand Central Art School before moving to Paris in 1930, continuing his studies at the Académies Julian and Ozenfant in Montparnasse. He was naturalized as a French citizen in 1949.
Goetz's early work was representational, but by 1936 his painting shifted toward a non-figurative, surrealist-inflected style. He is also credited with inventing the carborundum printmaking process, a technique for producing deeply textured intaglio prints.
His paintings are held in public collections including the Musée National d'Art Moderne (Centre Pompidou), the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, the Musée de Grenoble, the Israel Museum, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Packing
Packed by hand. Fragile items are double-boxed with custom foam inserts. Glass and detachable elements are removed, packed separately and reassembled on arrival.

Photograph the packaging and the piece before unpacking further, and contact us within 48 hours. We handle all freight claims directly and will arrange a resolution.
