About The Artist:

Heidi Melano, her maiden name Heidi Hoegger, she was born in Geneva on

April 20, 1929. Granddaughter of the great Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler, she was passionate about art from an early age: she created, painted and lets her imagination speak by expression through different techniques. Very quickly, she wanted to become a mosaic artist. At the age of 23, she won a mosaic competition with her work "La Volière". On this occasion, she meets Lino Melano, whose reputation as a mosaic artist was well established. They married in 1955 in Biot. From that moment, the spouses and teammates collaborated with the greatest artists of the 20th century: Braque, Chagall or Fernand Léger by executing, from models or images, huge mural mosaics.

Her meeting with Fernand Léger gave rise to a prolific collaboration over several years. Heidi alone was in charge of creating the three facades of the Fernand Léger museum in Biot.

Heidi also worked alone on projects with other great artists such as Folon, Zao Wou Ki. Accustomed to having to remake the models of her great artists with very eclectic movements and styles, we find in the personal works of Heidi Melano her inspirations: colors, shapes, techniques, which have followed her throughout her life.

Heidi Melano worked her art until the end of her life in Biot in 2014.
