This contemporary drawing by listed French artist, Gérard Eppelé whose abstract metaphysical forms of humans is a very interesting piece of masterful art. The Man on one Leg is only one of the hundreds of great works he painted. This is an original “eppreuve d’artist" signed and dated.
When Gérard Eppelé chose to set up his workshop in Arles in 1998, he left Tourettes-sur-Loup, where he lived since 1973, teaching at Villa Arson, a national art school located north of Nice, for more from twenty years, until 1992. Born in Cherbourg in 1929, he grew up in Morocco, returned to France in 1942. First trained in the profession of adjuster, he then attended the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse then, for two more years, the Aubusson National Tapestry School for which he obtained a scholarship. He worked for a few years as a painter and decorator in the cinema with Max Douy and Claude Autant-Lara. In 1959, health problems forced him to settle in the southeast. Established in Vence, he meets Jean Dubuffet and becomes his assistant. The latter recommends him to Alphonse Chave who allows him to make his first exhibition, Sleeper, in 1960 in Vence..

Gérard Eppelé is a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker born in 1929 in Cherbourg; he spent part of his childhood in Morocco. He briefly attended the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse in the mid-1940s and later studied at the National Tapestry School in Aubusson, then worked as a decorator/painter for the film industry, including for directors such as Jean Renoir and Luis Buñuel.
He settled in southeastern France in 1959, the same year he met Jean Dubuffet, for whom he worked as an assistant. Eppelé taught at the Villa Arson in Nice until 1992.
