About the Artist, Henry Pontoy:
Born in February 5th, 1888 in Reims, died in 1968.
Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he travelled and visited the Maghreb, settled in Fez in 1927 as a teacher and painted in Morocco where he was very much appreciated. Over the course of his career, Pontoy has explored various styles and techniques, ranging from Impressionism to Expressionism and Abstraction. His work is characterized by a bold color palette, dynamic composition, and an exploration of form and light. Pontoy drew his inspiration from nature, cityscapes and scenes of everyday life. His paintings often captured fleeting moments and particular atmospheres, revealing his sensitivity to shades of light and shadow. The artist was also influenced by his travels throughout Europe where he received recognition for his work. His works have been shown in art galleries and museums, and some of them are part of private and public collections.

Henri Jean Pontoy was born at Reims in 1888 into a family of musicians, and paid for his days at the easel by playing the violin in restaurants at night. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Luc-Olivier Merson and showed at the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon d’Automne and the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
He first saw Morocco in 1914 and settled at Fez in 1927, teaching at the Moulay Idriss lycée. Most of his work is Moroccan — streets, medinas, and the people in them, in warm oil and watercolour. He took the Grand Prix of the City of Algiers in 1933.

Photograph the packaging and the piece before unpacking further, and contact us within 48 hours. We handle all freight claims directly and will arrange a resolution.
Returns
