A rare and stunning French Louis XV style commode forme galbée, embellished with original ormolu mounts and fixtures throughout. Beautifully detailed inlay work including the three primary centred trèfles à quatre feuilles — four leaf clovers.
The body is composed of four drawers mounted atop shaped feet, with extraordinary ormolu bronze mounted decoration throughout. Made of rosewood, walnut, mahogany and kingwood. Remarkable patina. Original marble top, very unique in colour with green, grey and red hues, and original locks and key — the key designed with a beautiful fleur-de-lis.
Carefully restored and refinished using traditional French techniques.
About the stamp, and what it tells us about the date. This commode is stamped by the ébéniste Godefroy Przirembel. Przirembel was a native of Pitschen in Silesia, was received maître menuisier-ébéniste in Paris on 16 June 1766, married three years later in the chapel of the Swedish Embassy to the daughter of a watchmaker, and settled in the rue des Cannettes near the place Saint-Sulpice. He was still working in August 1795, and was known in the trade by his first name, Godefroy. He produced mahogany furniture in particular.
Because only a master could hold and strike a guild stamp, a piece bearing his estampille cannot pre-date 16 June 1766. We have previously described this commode as early 18th century; that is not possible and we have corrected it. The stamp places the piece at 1766 or later, which is Transition and Louis XVI territory rather than Louis XV, even though the form is in the earlier taste. We are listing it as Louis XV style for that reason, and we would rather correct our own description than leave a date on it that the stamp contradicts.

Freight transit is typically 7–14 business days; we contact you to arrange a delivery window. Smaller pieces travel insured by ground courier.

Packing
Packed by hand. Fragile items are double-boxed with custom foam inserts. Glass and detachable elements are removed, packed separately and reassembled on arrival.
If something arrives damaged
Photograph the packaging and the piece before unpacking further, and contact us within 48 hours. We handle all freight claims directly and will arrange a resolution.
Returns
One day from delivery for a change of mind — buyer pays shipping and a 15% restocking fee. If the fault is ours, none of that applies: 7 days, full refund including your original shipping, we pay the return freight, no restocking fee. See our refund policy.
