She also studied music theory in 1942-46.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eShe was an art teacher at the Barns Art Center (now the Rutgers University in Moorestown, New Jersey, 1964-68. One of the students in her class was,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTodd Siler, who today is an internationally recognized artist having exhibited his work in the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, France, in major galleries and museums in Japan, Canada and Western Europe. He is represented by the Ronald Feldman Gallery in New York City.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e Kates was also an art teacher for Enrichment Program for Public Schools in Moorestown, N.J., 1964-67.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e Kates developed classes in the visual arts on a private farm associated with the Head Start Program for underprivileged children.
